I am an orthopedic surgeon in Massachusetts, a doctor who has had the privilege of caring for the elderly for over 30 years.
I also have the privilege to work with people who are suffering from dementia.
I have spent the last several years working with patients suffering from the devastating effects of Alzheimer’s Disease.
I am often asked what I do.
I answered “I’m a doctor.”
It was then that I realised that I was also a “Doctor of the Future.”
“What does that have to do with the title of this post?”
In the past, I’ve talked about my hope that someday doctors will be able to diagnose Alzheimer’s.
But I didn’t really think about the fact that I’m actually a doctor of the future.
“Do you know, you can’t see that for yourself.”
In a world of high tech, high tech means that we can look into people’s eyes and hear what they’re saying.
But if you can see that person, you know that they are the same person.
I started the AMA with the premise that people should be able see each other and feel the same way.
The reason is because people are our closest companions.
When we come together, it’s because we feel the need to communicate, so we can all understand and empathise.
That’s why we call each other family.
What are some of the most important things that you want to make sure your future patients can see?
I believe that we all share a common humanity, but it is not something that we should forget.
Our empathy is what makes us human.
If we don’t have it, we’re going to lose people.
We have to learn how to feel it and share it with others.
That means being kind, understanding and caring.
I believe that every person should have the right to see their loved ones as their equals.
I’m going to make that a reality in the AMA.
I’ll be working to make my voice heard and make my patients feel comfortable.
Do you believe that there is a way to make the world a better place with the help of your AMA?
