On Monday, an employee at a furniture company in a rural Pennsylvania town filed a lawsuit claiming that carpet cleaning products were laced with dangerous chemicals and harmful chemicals in an attempt to hide their dangers.
The lawsuit alleges that carpet cleaners in other parts of the country were also manufacturing their own products.
“It’s really just a waste of money and a waste that’s hurting people’s lives,” the worker, who asked to remain anonymous, told ABC News.
“There are so many people out there, I don’t know if it’s a product or not.”
In a statement, a spokesperson for Carpetcleaning Inc. said that it is committed to “the highest standards of care” and that the company is working to determine the extent of the contamination.
The company did not immediately respond to ABC News’ request for comment on Monday.
The lawsuit alleges the carpet cleaning company’s carpet cleaner, the Nixle®, had “substantial amounts” of dioxins and beryllium in its products, according to a court filing.
The carpet cleaner is manufactured in China.
A company spokesperson told ABC affiliate WHYY that carpet cleaner was “not a toxin.”
They said the company has not received any allegations that carpet cleansers were contaminated.
The company was recently featured on the show “Inside the Actors Studio” on the NBC network.
The show focuses on actors and the entertainment industry, and the executive producer, Chris J. Miller, said that the episode will discuss the carpet cleaners and other products.
